Now that you’ve hired John Falvella Construction Services to build the custom home of your dreams, you might be feeling a little overwhelmed by all the planning that comes next. You’re not sure of what you should be doing and when.
Totally natural! We see this all the time.
That’s why we put together this quick explainer on how you can start planning for your custom home build. Take a look!
What’s Your Role in Preparing for the Build?
Of course, most of the logistics and planning are handled by our team. That’s why you hired us! From obtaining all required permits to coordinating the master schedule to designing 3D floorplans, our custom builders and architects will the vast majority of the details. However…
There’s still a few things you can do to facilitate our efforts. For example, we might need to contact you during business hours to ask a question or have you sign off on something. Therefore, you should make a plan to be reachable in some capacity, whether it’s by call, text, or email.
And, obviously, we also need your vision to guide our architecture and design services. So, one of the most helpful things you can do while we prepare for your build is to develop a crystal-clear idea of what you want your custom home to look like. This will keep things moving forward and lead to a more efficient turnaround.
How Long Will It Take to Build Your New Custom Home?
It goes without saying that every custom home project is different. But generally speaking, you should plan for your new home to be ready for move-in at least one year from our initial meeting. However, sometimes it can take up to 18 months if we run into any supply chain issues or bureaucratic roadblocks.
So, make sure you have your housing squared away for the next 12-18 months!
What Should You Do While You Wait for Construction to Finish?
While we’re busy hammering away, you should be planning the aesthetics of your home. Pick out paint swatches, countertops, flooring, doors, plumbing fixtures—basically, all of the interior and exterior design elements that will make your house a home.
We do offer you our professional interior design services, but our clients tend to be more successful and satisfied when they have strong ideas and style choices to start with!
